Through a partnership with the Pew Case Studies Program of the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy in the School of Foreign Services at Georgetown University, cases relating to foreign relations are available to Electronic Hallway members.

This case relates the policy processes leading up to and away from successive decisions about linking renewal of China's most-favored-nation (MFN) trading status with improvement of the Chinese government's human rights practice. The Clinton administration’s decisions concerning the connection between China’s MFN trading status with the United States and the Chinese government’s violations of the human rights of many of its citizens can be used to illustrate several important themes in U.S. foreign policy:
